SHOULDER SURGERY IN DALLAS/ FORT WORTH

Our surgeons at AOA Orthopedic Specialists perform shoulder surgery for a variety of reasons stemming from acute injury, repetitive stress injury, arthritic progression, failure of critical anatomical structures such as ligaments, tendons, and muscles, disease, degeneration, fractures, and inflammation. Common surgical interventions treat shoulder dislocations, rotator cuff tears, shoulder separation, and muscles detaching from bone after ligament failure. Shoulder surgery aims to restore the natural range of motion, function, and strength of the shoulder joint.

Three bones make up your shoulder joint: the humerus, the scapula, and the clavicle. This joint is held together by ligaments, which are connective tissues. To protect these bones, you have a set of four muscles around them adding stability and allowing motion. Tough connective tissue known as tendons anchors these muscles to the bones of the shoulder and adjacent structures. Bursa sacs support the shoulder joint in providing cushioning between bones.

AOA Orthopedic Specialists’ mission is to provide the highest quality, cutting-edge, evidence-based medical treatments available in orthopedics. To achieve this, we work with leading orthopedic surgeons from desirable fellowship programs that have reputations and bedside manners that meet our exacting standards. Our physicians practice in the areas of general orthopedics, sports medicine, joint restoration, joint replacement, arthroscopic surgery, hand and wrist, foot and ankle, orthopedic oncology, and spine surgery.

REASONS FOR SHOULDER SURGERY

Your doctor may recommend shoulder surgery if you suffer from any of the following conditions:

  • Rheumatoid or osteoarthritic arthritis can induce inflammation of the shoulder’s rotator cuff.
  • Bursitis is an inflammation of the bursa sac.
  • Deficiencies in cartilage, such as loose or damaged cartilage
  • Broken humerus (upper arm bone) or the collarbone.
  • Adhesive capsulitis, or “frozen shoulder,” is a condition in which the shoulder joint becomes inflexible.
  • Partial and total rips of the rotator cuff
  • Recurring dislocation of the shoulder
  • A partial or total tear of the shoulder ligaments (shoulder separation)
  • Treatment for tendonitis is a condition that causes inflammation of the tendon but does not respond to more conservative methods.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS REGARDING SHOULDER SURGERY

How long will it take for me to get back to my pre-injury state?

It is possible to leave the hospital on the same day of your operation if you are recovering well. Inpatient procedures necessitate a hospital stay of one to two days. The length of your recovery depends on various factors, including the treatment, type of anesthesia, overall health, and age. After surgery, you will likely need to use a sling for a few weeks. Your doctor recommends exercise rehabilitation to help you recover. Many people need weeks or months to heal from an injury fully.

How will shoulder surgery influence my daily routine?

Shoulder surgery may be able to alleviate your problems and allow you to lead a regular life again. Shoulder surgery, for example, can reduce your pain and help you regain your shoulder’s strength and range of motion. Shoulder surgery is not a guarantee against future shoulder injuries.

After a shoulder operation, how long do you have to sleep on your side?

Do not sleep on your back. It is terrible for your health. For the first four to six weeks after surgery, it is recommended to sleep on an incline. A recliner may be the best option during the first few weeks. Additionally, a medical supply store can sell a 45-degree wedge to support yourself up in bed.
